ABOUT THE PAST RETIRED NFL PLAYERS PROGRAM
The "P.A.S.T Retired Football Players Pain Management and Medical Resource Group" provides medical services directly to individual retired players to address their various needs in the primary areas of Pain Management (evaluation, procedures and treatments), dependency on pain medications and other medical services such as: Internal Medicine, Chiropractic, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spinal Fusion (cervical, lumbar) Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology and more.
Pro Bono services are offered to retired players who are in crisis.
PAST is currently providing medical evaluations and a variety of medical services to retired players. Please take a moment to watch video clips from some of those players already receiving pro bono medical services.
This ground breaking program is the first of its kind because P.A.S.T and their affiliated Pain Management, Medical, Drug Dependency facilities and physicians are opening up their doors DIRECTLY TO ALL RETIRED FOOTBALL PLAYERS, without the need to go through any third party organizations to obtain these specialized medical services. P.A.S.T. has not aligned with any one independent retired players' organization, the NFL or NFLPA. The P.A.S.T. Retired Football Players Pain Management and Medical Resource Group philosophy is to provide retired NFL players with the opportunity to interface directly with the facilities, physicians and medical administrative staff, giving retired players the ability as individuals to obtain immediate solutions for their medical needs. This approach eliminates the red tape and ensures that players are evaluated and treated on the basis of medical issues and by specialists in the various medical disciplines. P.A.S.T welcomes referrals of players in need of care from all retired player's organizations and will interface directly with any players who need medical help. The average turn around time from a player's first call to get through evaluations with multiple physicians, extensive medical testing and to start treatment whether it be surgery, pain management or other treatments is usually no more than a total of four weeks start to finish.
P.A.S.T. directly provides pro bono services to those players who are in crisis, and without insurance or means for care. Such services include evaluations, medical procedures, treatments, resources, travel and accommodations to participating facilities. The pro bono component of the program for players in crisis is funded directly by P.A.S.T. and its dedicated physicians and specialists, all of whom will donate their time and facilities to care for those players who are in need.
A full service specialized program has been created to serve ALL retired football players, those with insurance and means and those without. Travel and accommodations support is also provided to many players with insurance. All players receive cutting edge care in state of the art facilities and support services through specialized programs created specifically and personally for the professional athlete that address their unique and distinct set of medical and personal needs.
P.A.S.T. is unique in that it is comprised of pain management specialists and facilities plus clinical drug and alcohol counselors and facilities that specialize in addressing dependency on pain medications both over the counter and narcotic. The P.A.S.T dependency program is overseen by a former professional football player who has a Ph.D. in Psychology and is a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor.
For players living in chronic pain who currently manage their pain with medications P.A.S.T not only has physicians who are experts in the field of pain management who can address the management of the actual pain; they also have a team of specialists who can assist in decreasing or eliminating the use of highly addictive or physically damaging pain medications.
P.A.S.T. has created and currently implements a Pain Management program for retired Major League Baseball players and is the official pain management provider for the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
